Nevada Fast Facts
From out at sea Spanish sailors gazed upon the beautiful mountain ranges of California. They called these mountains Sierra Nevada(snowy range). Sierra Nevada seemed an apt name for the new territory that was being carved out of Utah. In 1859 the name of this new territory was shortened to Nevada.

Called the “Silver State" because of its large silver mine industries. Named as the “Sage State” and the “Sagebrush State” for the wild sage that grows there prolifically.

*Although Route66 does not pass through Nevada, we now detour slightly from route 66 to travel to Las Vegas due to popular demand from our participants.

After riding about 1.5 hours on Highway 93 we get a view of the Hoover Dam; considered one of the greatest engineering works in history.

The Hoover Dam

Pressing on down this hot and dusty road (for about 1.5 hours) we catch sight of Las Vegas the self-proclaimed ‘premiere entertainment and gambling destination in the world’!

The Desert at Dawn

The stretch of road that we have covered here in Nevada has been through barren desert and it feels, at times, as ‘hot as Hades’. Please heed our precautions regarding heat
exhaustion and remember to:

Drink plenty of water, even though you might not feel thirsty

Dip your towel or bandana in the ice water tub (kept in the
support vehicle) and wrap it round your neck to keep you cool

Consider taking salt tablets to enable your body to retain fluid.

After checking into the hotel, you’re on your own! Some of you may choose to hang out by the pool, others might check out the casinos, possibly some of you will join forces and cruise the strip by dark - and then perhaps there is a couple who will take advantage of one of the many wedding chapels! Viva Las Vegas!

Next morning we prepare to head out at 8:30am. Desert - barren desert, it takes 3 hours to get from Las Vegas to Barstow, we will use 5 including pit stops. This is hot, dusty, desert - as far as the eye can see. We aim to arrive in Barstow around 1:30pm, stopping in at the Route 66 Museum for our last chance to purchase Route 66 memorabilia.
